Battle of The Bell Boats

Boxing Day saw the annual 'Battle of The Bell Boats' with club members, friends and family joining in a variety of fun races up and down the Thames.  With Paul and Malc nominated as helms for this years contest, a deeply scientific methodology was used to split everyone into two teams.

In a rather unsurprising move, Malc was quick to secure the red bell boat in the belief that his team would have the advantage (what advantage the red bell boat has, no one is sure), however the perceived advantage was short lived when Team Red were taking on water quicker than they could bail.  After returning to the club and exchanging boats, Malc's team (now Team Turquoise) returned to the river to compete against Team Purple in events such as the "Forwards Backwards" race and the "Damsell in Distress" race.

Team Red (AKA. Team Turquoise)

Team Turquoise took an early lead after their helm called a couple of race starts before their opponents were ready, but Team Purple soon clawed back a couple of wins to equalise.

Those Boxing Day strollers who braved the icy footpaths couldn't quite fathom out whether the boats were intentionally paddling backwards, or whether the helms had simply lost control.  Rest assured the helms were in complete control at all times.
